POST receives the Philatelic equivalent of the "Oscar" for its rural tourism stamps

26 July 2021

On Saturday July 24, the jury of the prestigious "Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize" announced, as every year since 1970 in Asiago, Italy, the winners of the "World's Most Beautiful Stamps", which this year included POST Luxembourg for the first time.

Recognized worldwide as the equivalent of the "Oscars" for stamp issues, the "Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize" has been rewarding philatelic creation from all over the world in five categories for over fifty years.

Issued in 2020, the stamps in the series dedicated to "Rural Tourism" earned POST Luxembourg the prize in the "Tourism" category. The award was presented to Isabelle Faber, POST Luxembourg's Director of Communications & PR - CSR, who was present at the ceremony, which took place at the Asiago Town Hall in the presence of the Mayor of Asiago, members of the jury and representatives of the winning countries.

A highly acclaimed series

The "Rural Tourism" series, designed by Luxembourg graphic artist Eugène Kalmus, is published as a trilogy, issued by POST Philately under the responsibility of Emile Espen, with two motifs per year. This special edition, which comes to an end this year, promotes Luxembourg's rural tourism offering. It is produced with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and in collaboration with the APTR (Association pour la Promotion du Tourisme rural au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg).

The motifs on the two award-winning stamps reflect the joys of rural tourism, with images that are easy to interpret: children with farm animals, or hikers amidst a rural landscape in the vineyards of Luxembourg's Moselle region. The artist's lively, poetic style makes these illustrations very idyllic, recalling the joy of the simple things in life.

The "Tourisme Rural" series is currently a best-seller on the POST Philately e-shop. It is also available in the Guichet Philatélique and post offices.
