POST Luxembourg officially marked the start of the expansion of the National Sorting Centre in Bettembourg

18 August 2026

On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, POST Luxembourg officially marked the start of the expansion of the National Sorting Centre in Bettembourg with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism, Jean-Marie Jans, Mayor of Bettembourg, as well as representatives of the Board of Directors and the management of POST Luxembourg and INFLOW.

Representing an investment of more than €80 million, the project responds to the profound transformation of mail and parcel activities. While mail volumes have declined by 45% since 2010, parcel volumes continue to grow, driven in particular by the sustained development of e-commerce, with nearly 10 million parcels processed by POST Luxembourg in 2025.

By 2028, the Bettembourg site will become a multifunctional logistics platform covering nearly 35,000 m², more than doubling its current size. It will bring together mail and parcel sorting, transport, cross-docking, warehousing and value-added logistics services. In the long term, close to 400 employees of POST Luxembourg and INFLOW will work at the site.

Designed to meet high standards of performance and sustainability, the extension includes the installation of photovoltaic panels, the deployment of the maximum possible number of electric vehicle charging stations, and the pursuit of recognised sustainable building certifications. To optimise the use of available space, the new building will reach a height of 17 metres. The project is being developed in collaboration with a Luxembourg-based architectural firm and local partners specialising in logistics infrastructure.

This transformation will also involve a significant human dimension. New roles and skill sets will emerge, supported by training, upskilling and change management programmes designed to ensure employees’ long-term employability and support the evolution of the Group’s activities.

Claude Strasser, Managing director of POST Luxembourg, stated: “The expansion of the Bettembourg Sorting Centre represents a strategic investment for the POST Luxembourg Group and for the country. It will enable us to strengthen our competitiveness, respond to the continued growth in parcel flows and pursue our development under sustainable conditions, while supporting our employees as their professions evolve and preserving essential logistics expertise in Luxembourg.”

Mario Treinen, Director of POST Courrier and Executive director of INFLOW, added: “The future Sorting Centre will allow us to sustainably support the growth of the parcel market while maintaining the operational excellence for which POST is renowned. Thanks to new equipment, optimised facilities and the commitment of our employees, we will have a production tool capable of meeting the needs of the coming decades.”

Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism, concluded: “This project perfectly illustrates Luxembourg’s ability to anticipate economic and logistics transformations. By investing in high-performance, innovative and sustainable infrastructure, POST Luxembourg is not only strengthening its position as a strategic player serving the country but also contributing to the competitiveness and attractiveness of our economy.”

The continuity of mail and parcel operations will be maintained throughout the construction period, with the new infrastructure scheduled to be commissioned progressively from 2027 and fully operational by 2028.
