Parcel shipments to the United States - POSTGroup
In a decree dated 30 July 2025, the US authorities announced the abolition of the previous customs exemption for shipments with a value of up to $800. From 29 August onwards, all shipments of goods to the United States, regardless of their value, will therefore be subject to customs duties.
The technical details of this reform were only published by the US customs authorities in mid-August, and several operational and technical points remain unclear in the official guidelines to this day. This situation currently makes it impossible to send parcels to the United States via the postal network. Although the decree will not come into force until 29 August, the suspension will be brought forward to 23 August to prevent parcels sent in the meantime from being blocked due to a lack of processing in the postal system.
It is important to emphasise that these new regulations apply exclusively to parcels. The sending of documents by post remains possible without restrictions.
In anticipation of the introduction of the necessary procedures within the postal network and in order to ensure continuity of service, POST Luxembourg, in collaboration with its partner DHL, is offering an alternative solution that will enable private and business customers to continue sending their parcels to the United States.
This solution, which is handled via DHL's international express network, is only available at ‘Espaces POST’ and post offices. It is not offered at ‘Points POST’ operated by partners.
Letters can still be sent to the United States via the entire sales network, including the ‘Points POST’.
