Luxembourg, 9 October 2014. In 2013, the rise in e-commerce generated an approximate 18% increase in the volume of parcels. To simplify the lives of our customers and provide them with more flexibility, POST Luxembourg is launching the 'parcel delivery box' pilot project. It allows customers to receive a parcel securely, even in their absence, without having to go to one of the sales outlets or PackUp stations.

The principle: a POST parcel delivery box is installed in front of an apartment house or single-family home. The postman drops off the parcel and secures the box using an electronic locking system (RFID). The delivery notification left in the recipient's letter box is used as a one-time key to open the box and retrieve the parcel.

"The parcel delivery boxes have recently reached the market. POST Luxembourg is with this innovative project one of the first testers, states Claude Hansen, Head of the Department Regulation, Processes, Industrial Relations and Innovation, POST Luxembourg. In PackUp stations 80% of the boxes are emptied on the day of delivery and 15% on the following day. This new service will provide our customers with more flexibility and reduces the number of delivery notifications whilst taking pressure off the post offices."

Depending on the results of the pilot project, the commercial roll-out should take place early 2015.
